Interactive Journals

There are two types of journals in the AIMS English Interactive Journals system: Teacher Journals and Student Journals.

The Teacher Journal

  • is a model for writing a journal for the students
  • allows the teacher to find out what the students have questions about
  • encourages an adult relationship that honors the students’ experiences and proficiency levels.

The Student Journal

AIMS English students write regularly in an Interactive Student Journal. The student writes, either to a prompt or about anything she wants, and then the teacher responds to the content of the student’s writing.

  • is naturally on each student’s level
  • provides a forum for students to express themselves in writing
  • is a way for the instructor to assess students’ written progress on an individual and daily basis
  • helps the instructor get to know the students, and vice versa, on a personal level.

The Interactive Journal can be thought of as a written conversation.
